In this week’s Disney Test Kitchen, we recreate The Master’s Cupcake from the Be Our Guest restaurant in the Magic Kingdom.

The real star of the cupcake is The Grey Stuff – it’s delicious, don’t believe me? Ask the dishes! At Be Our Guest, you can find The Grey Stuff as The Master’s Cupcake at breakfast and lunch, and as part of the dessert trio at dinner in a white chocolate “Chip” cup.

At Disneyland you can find it at the Red Rose Taverne; it coats a red velvet cake on top of a sugar cookie!

Disney released their official grey stuff recipe, but we tweaked it a little bit. This recipe is perfect for a Beauty and the Beast themed party. My husband also thinks it would make an amazing cake filling, and I have to agree with him there!

Once again we have the wrong piping bag tip (I swear I’m picking up the right one very soon!!) But the recipe tasted delicious both on it’s own, and just as pudding!

The Grey Stuff

Yield: 12-14
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Additional Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Copycat recipe of The Grey Stuff found at Disney World & Disneyland! Pipe into your favorite cupcake, cookie, just eat it by itself, it's delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 package vanilla instant pudding (4 servings)
  • 1 ½ - 2 cups cold milk
  • 15 chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 8 ounces of whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate instant pudding powder (about half of the 4 servings package)
  • Chocolate cupcakes, sugar cookies, or bowls!

Instructions

  1. Make the vanilla pudding according to the box instructions (we used 2 cups of cold 1% milk). Let firm up for 15 minutes
  2. Puree the chocolate sandwich cookies with a food processor, or with a mortar and pestle. You could also put them in a zipper bag and hit them with a hammer, there are no rules here 😉
  3. Stir the pureed cookies into the vanilla pudding
  4. Add the chocolate pudding mix and the whipped topping
  5. Refrigerate for an hour to firm up
  6. Spoon the Grey Stuff into a piping bag and pipe onto cupcakes, cookies, or just spoon it into a bowl, like I said, no rules 😉
  7. Store in the fridge

Final Thoughts

Another sort of fail Disney recipe! What we’ve learned is that they may not look amazing, they taste pretty good and that’s what counts 😉
