How (Not) To Make Disney Churros

When the Disney Parks Blog released their churros recipe, I knew we had to try it! My husband and I are missing Disney, so one afternoon we set out to make Disney churros. While they aren’t the prettiest, and we got oil everywhere, we had fun doing it & they tasted pretty good so that’s what counts I think!

Tips For Making Churros

  1. Make sure you have the right piping tip. You’ll need Wilton tip 8B. The 1M tip will work too. We didn’t have the right tip, so the shape was a little funky, which made the texture not quite right.
  2. Be careful heating up your oil. You want the oil to be hot enough that the churros cook, but not too hot that the oil explodes… You’ll want the temperature to be at 350F
  3. Roll in cinnamon sugar right away so that it sticks!
  4. Have fun! Even if you don’t have the right tip, and oil splatters all over the place, you can still have fun doing it 😉

The Disney churros recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon - divided
  • 1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • ¼ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine water, butter, salt and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium size sauce pan over medium heat. Bring it to a rolling boil.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the flour and stir until it forms a ball. Remove from the heat and let it rest for 5-7 minutes
  3. Add eggs one at a time and stir until combined.
  4. Heat oil in a medium sauce pan or pot until it reaches 350. Be careful!
  5. Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip (Wilton 8B).
  6. Pipe the dough into the hot oil and use a knife to cut it off.
  7. Repeat until the pan is full but has enough room so that the churros aren't touching. Cook until golden
  8. Drain churros on paper towel
  9. Mix the sugar with remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and toss the bites until they are coated (works best if they are fresh from frying).
  10. Enjoy! You could serve with chocolate dipping sauce
