Inside: What to do in Nova Scotia In The Fall; Best places to see fall colours in Nova Scotia; Where to pick apples; haunted tours Nova Scotia

Although Summer is my favourite season, Fall in Nova Scotia definitely has some appeal. Typically the weather in late September and October is cooler and averages around 10 to 20 degrees Celsius (50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit). Perfect weather for outdoor activities without sweating too much! There are so many fun things to do here in the Fall so I thought I would share some with you:

Apple Picking

We love apple picking in the Fall! We have been going to Elderkin’s in Wolfville (10362 Hwy 1, Wolfville, NS B4P 2R2) for several years. They have every variety of apples you could possibly look for, including Honey Crisp – my personal favorite! I also love their apple cider and pick up a jug while we are there. They keep their Facebook page up to date with what is open for picking.

Corn Mazes

We did the corn maze at Noggin’s Farm in Greenwich and had an amazing time! There are so many in the province so look for the one closest to you. Most are open during the day as a family maze, and turn into a haunted corn maze at night. I’m a big chicken so I’ll probably stick to the family friendly one!

Riverbreeze, Truro

Indian Garden Farms, Bridgewater

Hanks Farm Market, Sydney

Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival

Head down to the South Shore of Nova Scotia to Mahone Bay to see the scarecrows, there’s also an antique fair and lots of family fun! Check out their website for more info.

Kentville Pumpkin People Festival

Visit Kentville in the Annapolis Valley during the month of October to see the Pumpkin People! They are everywhere and there’s always a theme! In 2020 the theme was Fables, Folklore and Fantasy

Cabot Trail

Probably the most famous thing to do in Nova Scotia any time of year, the Cabot Trail really comes to life in the fall. The Celtic Colors Festival is October 8-16 2021 and you’ll find concerts, learning workshops, community meals, plus all of the amazing outdoor scenery!

Haunted Tours

We have done the Halifax Citadel Ghost Tour at the National Historic site, and had so much fun! The Halifax Ghost Walk is the oldest ghost walk in North America and is recommended by Lonely Planet and Fodors. There are several other ghost tours in Nova Scotia including Lunenburg, and the Annapolis Valley.

Spend a day visiting the Halifax Citadel, here’s all the info you need!

Hiking

We love hiking! There are so many in Nova Scotia that I couldn’t possibly list them all here. A few of our favourites are Cape Spilt in Annapolis Valley, Duncan’s Cove in Halifax, and Franey Mountain in Cape Breton.

Shop Local Harvest

It’s harvest season in Nova Scotia, which makes it a great time to buy some local produce. If you’re in the Annapolis Valley you’ll have lots of roadside stands and farmer’s markets to pick from. If you’re in Halifax, I would suggest checking out the Halifax Seaport Market. It’s always nice to meet the people who actually grew your fruits and vegetables.

Check out other things to do in Halifax!

Good Cheer Trail

The Good Cheer Trail is Canada’s first and only brewery, cidery, winery and distillery trail. Check out local wine, beer, cider and spirits at locations all around the province. Spend a day (with a designated driver of course) checking out local spots, most of which also serve food or snacks. Some of my favourites are:

I will happily visit Nova Scotia at any time of the year… have been becoming quietly obsessed with this province for awhile now. The colours in that first picture are so beautiful.

  2. Can I just say I LOVE the name of your blog! Nova Scotia (I love saying this place so much, it rolls of the tongue so beautifully) looks amazing for the fall time! The Cabot Trail looks like it’s definitely worth visiting and I can’t imagine how beautiful the leaves would look in a few weeks. Thank you for sharing! <3
