A working maple syrup farm about an hour and a half outside the downtown core of Halifax, nestled in the Cobequid Hills, you’ll find the coziest building filled with delicious maple inspired food, family fun and lots of history.
They have been making syrup since 1973 as Boondock Maple Products + Pancake House, Quita and Scott took over from the original owner Bob in 1996 and renamed it Sugar Moon Farm. Quita and Scott and their family live on the farm and you can feel their passion for maple everywhere.

It’s best to call before going, as the weather can be different up in the Cobequid Hills! They get the most snow in mainland Nova Scotia!
November, December, January, February: Friday-Sunday 10am-4pm
March, April, May: Friday-Sunday 9am- 5pm
June: Friday-Sunday 9am-4pm
July, August to Labor Day Monday in September: Daily 9am-4pm

Price:
Maple Magic Package: $40 per adult, children ages 5-12 are $20, and kids ages 2-5 are $10. All prices include hst and 15% gratuity for brunch!
The package includes the Classic Maple Brunch in the restaurant, the tour of the Sugar Camp, with a sampling of syrup, and sugar-on-snow
If you’re only interested in the tour it’s $5 per adult, kids 5-12 are $3 and under 5 is free. Sign up is in the restaurant.
Things To Do
Tour
Hourly tours explain how maple syrup is made from collecting sap, to the boil over a wood fire. They explain the history of maple syrup, and the tour ends with a tasting! If you go during Sugar Season – end of February to Mid-April, it’s possible you’ll get to watch them actually make syrup!
Eat
You HAVE to eat when you go to Sugar Moon. The brunch is out of this world! The restaurant is very busy so make sure to put your name on the list when you arrive. Everything on the menu includes maple in some way, and you can tell the food is made with love. They use local organic ingredients where possible that’s cooked to order from scratch. Make sure you order one of the specialty coffees!
You can also enjoy the Canadian delicacy of sugar-on-snow!
Explore
There are over 30km of trails, starting from the parking lot! You snow-shoe, or bring cross-country ski to enjoy the snow in the winter. You can hike in the summer, there are several trails of different lengths. They have snow-shoes for rent that you have to request in advance and it costs $5 per hour.
You can also explore the Sugar Woods and follow the sap line through the property and see the original Sugar Camp!

What a gorgeous place! It reminds me of reading Little House on the Prairie books when I was a kid. I’d love to visit and go snowshoeing on one of those trails, then come back and eat a gigantic brunch!
