Why Goals Fail

Hey friends!

It’s half way through January already! Can you believe it? I had a totally different post planned for you today but I had to scrap it so I could talk to you about something.

I set a goal this month to start a morning routine and it is not going well. In fact it’s not going at all.

What I wanted my mornings to look like…

So I wanted to share with you today why goals fail, and why that may be okay.

A well-timed podcast by one of my fav girls, Jenna Kutcher, talked about the psychology of goals. We need to be intentional when setting goals. Not just knowing what you want to do, but how and when you’ll do it, and how it will change your life in the way you want it to.

So let me break down why my goal didn’t work for me:

I never actually wrote down what I wanted my morning routine to be. I thought about it. I knew I wanted to incorporate some stretching, and some meditating, but that’s as far as I got.

I didn’t think about WHEN I would do it. I mean in the morning obviously but was I going to set an alarm or just do it when I woke up?

I didn’t know WHERE I would do it either. In bed? In the office or spare room? All things I should have figured out.

WHY do I want to do this? How would it change my life? I wanted to start mornings in a more productive, peaceful way. I needed to remind myself of that.

What my mornings actually looked like…

So what if you fail?

Well nothing really happens, life goes on. I’m going to dust myself off and start again. Just because you failed, or missed your goal doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth working toward. If you align your goal with the WHY WHERE & WHEN then you’ll be on your way to crushing your goals.

PS you can get my printable for goal crushing here!

I hope this helped some of you!

Talk soon,

Jenn
