Adults Only Disney World Trip

You might think of Disney World as a family trip but trust me; there are plenty of things for adults to do! My husband and I don’t have kids and we have been to Disney World many times together. Here are some of my ideas for an adults only trip to Disney!

Where To Stay During An Adults Only Disney Vacation

Staying on property to me is part of the experience. It makes things so much easier with airport transportation and hotels to parks transportation all included. You also get perks like extra magic hours (hours in the morning or night that the parks are only open to guests staying on Disney property), and being able to make dining reservations earlier.

There are 3 categories of hotels: value, moderate and deluxe. Moderate and deluxe hotels tend to be nicer (read: fancier) and have more amenities. That being said my husband and I have stayed at the value resorts and are perfectly happy. We don’t spend much time there anyway, but if you’re looking for a nicer resort experience definitely choose moderate or deluxe.

Thrill Rides

At the parks, I like going on all the rides, but there are some that are more little kid oriented than others! If you’re looking for more intense rides, when you look at a park map you’ll notice some rides have height requirement, they are more intense. My favourites are Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Test Track and Avatar Flight Of Passage!

Meet Characters

Don’t be afraid to get in line for the character interactions either! Characters are always amazing, and we had such great experiences, especially with Anna and Elsa, and Gaston. I mean part of the fun is still feeling like a kid right?

Disney Springs and The Boardwalk

Outside of the parks there is plenty for adults to do. Disney Springs is a shopping and entertainment district on Disney property. There are lots of fun shops to browse, from Disney themed stores to Mac cosmetics, and Kate Spade to unique stores like Lefty’s – The left hand store. There are over 100 stores to browse!

Disney Springs also has great night life for the 21+. House of Blues, Paradiso 37 Entertainment and several other restaurants have live entertainment.

Disney’s Boardwalk is such an underrated area of Disney World. I LOVE walking around here. It comes to life at night with the Atlantic Dance Hall, a nightclub that plays music from the 80s, 90s, and today. Jellyrolls is a piano bar, with piano maestros that can apparently play anything! There are also a few restaurants and dining in this area but it is much smaller than Disney Springs.

You don’t need a ticket to visit Disney Springs or the Boardwalk! Check out all the other things you can do on a No Park Day at Disney!

Special Tours

Inside the parks there is also the option of doing a special tour! This past June my husband and I did The Keys To The Kingdom tour and we loved it! They took us into backstage areas and gave us lots of info about Magic Kingdom. We are hoping to do the Safari Experience at Animal Kingdom on a future trip! For more info on special tours go here.

Spas and Golf

If you’re looking for something more relaxing several of the on property hotels have spas. They offer facials, massages, mani pedis, and more! A perfect way to relax.

There are several golf courses on property and also two mini golf courses! You can find more info here.

Dining

With so many restaurants at Disney World it can be hard to choose! Some more adult friendly ones include Victoria & Albert’s, Le Cellier Steakhouse, Narcoossee’s and our personal favorite Sanaa! Some of the restaurants on property are “Signature Restaurants” meaning they are usually more fancy (read:expensive) and you don’t usually find as many kids around. They are great options for a more intimate and quiet night.

We love to eat, and there can be so many restaurants to choose from! All of the restaurants at Epcot are amazing because you get to try so many different types of cuisine. Check out this post for a round up of all your options!

Epcot

If you happen to be going during the Fall, you will be lucky enough to experience Epcot’s Food and Wine festival. There will be many food booths set up in the World Showcase with different food and drinks from each country. There are also other festivals throughout the year that have drink and snack booths.

Even if you are not there during a festival you can Drink (or Snack!) Around the World. There are 11 countries each with their own food and beverages to enjoy! Take your time and enjoy walking around the pavilions while eating and drinking.

Speaking of snacks, check out the most drool-worthy snacks at Disney in this post!

Night Time Extra Magic Hours

Extra Magic Hours are a perk if you stay on property, some nights the parks will be open later (or earlier, but for this post we’re focused on the later ones!) for guests staying in a Disney hotel. These are great because families with young kids usually clear out right after the fireworks. The lines are usually shorter, and you can hopefully move around without possibly being run over by a stroller!

Take Your Time

I think one of my favourite things to do is walk around the parks really taking my time. Without kids in tow you can really take in all the details, find hidden Mickeys, smell the Main Street Confectionary and relax with a Dole Whip.

If you’re not convinced by now that Disney is also for adults then you just need to experience it for yourself!

I went to Disney Paris as a child. Was a nice experience. Going as an adult should be cool. After all, you did mention “intense rides” and “Cirque du Soleil”!

  4. I’ve only been to Disney World as a kid, but now you have me wanting to go back! I didn’t realize there was so much for adults to do there without kids!

  5. I’ve never been to Disney! The Cirque du Soleil show would be amazing – I’ve always wanted to watch one!

  6. I haven’t been to Disney since I lived in Tampa in high school! I think I am way overdue for a visit – even though we don’t have kids!

I never been to Disney before and was thinking I would wait till I have my own kids to go, but now I want to do my own adult trip! That’s such a great tip about the extra magic hours. Will definitely book the full package.

  8. Hey Jenn,

Yes! Disney is for big kids too! Haha! I agree – I’ve been to Disney twice, once when my siblings and I were kids, and once as adults and adults definitely wins out! Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories!

  9. Hahaha I LOOOVE your photo with Anna! We visited Disney World a couple of years ago and had the TIME of our lives! In all honesty I preferred Universal, but Disney is just so good. 🙂 And you can do it on your own terms as an adults-only trip rather than thinking “well we have to do this cause the kids want to”.

I got to go last week for Mickey’s not so scary halloween party and had so much fun! I’d love to go back for a few days. I never got to go as a kid but I feel like older is better…can stay awake longer haha.

  11. Anna says:

Ahh I LOVE Disney! I’ve only been to Disneyland Paris and DisneySea Tokyo but my husband refused to come with me to either! How did you convince your husband to go with you? I need to learn!

  12. Vanda says:

I have yet to visit Disney World! My partner and I don’t have kids either, so your tips are great! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  13. Good tips and love the photos!

  14. So I have never been to Disney World (so crazy!), and I don’t have kids, so I would definitely do some of these things! The Food and Wine festival sounds the best to me. I have heard great things about Disney restaurants all around, so I’m sure I wouldn’t be disappointed with those either.

This post makes me want to go book our next trip right now! Haha! There is a place in Disney Springs that offers Hot Air Balloon rides. We did not do it but wish we had. It is definitely on the list of must do´s for next trip ☺

As a childless adult, I do Disney adults only all the time. It is a blast. The new Arts Festival at Epcot is great for adults too.
